Biography
I am passionate about Hereford and my work as both a City and County Councillor. I am widowed, with a daughter, Lucia, aged 33, and a large dog named Luke. I first came to Hereford in 1982, was offered a job with horses by a friend, and have lived here ever since.

I spent two years studying on a management course and subsequently worked with people with learning difficulties and mental health problems, more latterly with Social Services. In 1995 I decided to leave my work with the Local Authority in order to stand as a local Councillor on Hereford City Council.

In 2000 I also became a Herefordshire Councillor. I am in politics due to my concern about corruption in public life, the abuse of power and the need for more transparency in the decision-making process. I have been Chair of the Adult Scrutiny Committee for four years. This committee checks that the Council are running Adult Community Services properly.

My hobbies include walking Luke, my dog, and riding. I have a wide musical taste and love to listen to music. I am part of the Hereford church family that meets at St. Peter and St James', where I serve on the PCC, take an interest in the youth work, and enjoy camping trips to conferences in Somerset! I was instrumental in getting the Close House young people's project in Hereford City Centre up and running.

I have been a governor of both St. Paul's and St. James' CE Primary Schools. I am also a member of the Bartonsham Community Association. In 1996 I became involved in Humanitarian Aid and it's work in Bosnia, helping to collect supplies and also driving the lorries from England to Bosnia.
As a local councillor I often find myself in the role of facilitator and am told I am good at bringing people together to find solutions. I serve as Chair of the Social Care and Strategic Housing Scrutiny Committee, am a member of the planning committee for the Central Area, and also sit on the Drug and Alcohol Forum.

I very much enjoyed my year as Mayor of Hereford, which ended in May 2006. I hope that I brought some style to the role and welcomed the opportunity to promote my home city.

In September 2006 I became a Freeman of the City of London. The following year I was invited to become a member of the Liveried Company of Farriers of which I am justly proud as in Hereford we had the first Farriery College of international renown. I am pleased and proud to say we still receive many overseas students and I maintain a strong relationship with them.

In April 2007 I started work at Close House, a centre for young people in the city.

In October 2007 I became Chairperson of Herefordshire Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA), a charity with which I have been involved for several years.

I am the Co-ordinator of Children of Peace in Hereford and between 11th and 15th December 2007 a lorry kindly donated by Kirsty Chadd of Chadds Department Store will be at the west door of the Cathedral to collect items of aid for the children in Gaza. Items required are blankets, sleeping bags, tinned food, toiletries and most importantly pens, pencils, notepaper and files - in fact anything suitable for schools.
